The Online Application Process
Q. Will I be able to apply for more than one early childhood site or program? Each parent may submit one application indicating their first, second, and third choices. Site and program options depend on the child's age and the household income.
Q. How long does it take to complete the online application process? Typically, the process should take from 10-20 minutes, depending on your household information and the time required to upload supporting documentation.
Q. What if I do not have access to a computer? Please contact the site or program you would like your child to attend for application assistance. You may also contact the JPPSS PreK Department at 504-349-7697 for assistance.
Q. Is there another way of submitting an application other than online? No, the application process is strictly electronic.
Q. Once I've submitted the application electronically, how will I know that the submission is successful? Once the application is completed online, you will receive an email at the email address you provided when you created an account.
Q. Should I allow anyone else to use my account? It is the user's responsibility to protect the integrity of any information entered in the system. This includes but is not limited to passwords or personal information about you or your child. You must also agree not to share your login information or password with anyone except a parent or legal guardian.
Q. My account has been disabled because I've attempted to login too many times. Should I set up another account? No. You must call the JPPSS PreK Department for an administrator to assist you.
Q. After I have completed the online application, is there another step to complete the process? Yes. You must scan and upload the required documentation before your application is considered complete. You can receive support to scan and upload documents at the site or program you would like your child to attend or at the JPPSS PreK Department.
Q. What if I do not scan and upload all of the required documentation? Your child's name will not be placed in the lottery to assign seats if all documentation is not uploaded by the deadline.
Q. If I apply online and need assistance to scan and upload documentation, when is the absolute latest I can upload required documents? Applications must be completed with required documentation by March 24, 2017 to be included in the first lottery to assign seats in the programs. Many programs fill all seats in the first lottery. Deadlines for additional lotteries will be posted here and on the JPPSS website at www.jpschools.org.
Q. Once I've completed my online documentation and uploaded my required documents, what proof will I have that the application was completed by the deadline? Once the application is completed online with the required documentation, you will receive an email at the email address you provided when you created an account. This email is your confirmation of completed registration.
Q. Can I change my first-choice selection even though my application has already been submitted? Requests for changes to an application must be made prior to the March 24, 2017 deadline for the first lottery. The most current information in the application will be used in the lottery process.
Q. I live in a nearby school district. Will my child be able to enroll in a site or program within Jefferson Parish? Yes. Some sites and programs can enroll children who live outside of Jefferson Parish. Once you enter your address and household information, the system will show the programs for which you are eligible. Note - Children who reside outside of Jefferson Parish are not eligible to apply for Head Start and JPPSS (school system) sites or programs.
Q. I missed this year's application deadline. Will I have a chance to apply at another time? Applications are accepted year round. However, applications must be completed by March 24, 2017 to be included within the first lottery for 2017-2018 school year seats. Most seats funded by LA 4, NSECD, Early Head Start, and Head Start are filled in the first lottery run. Any remaining seats are filled in second and third lottery runs.
Q. Should I know any additional information? All seats awarded through the Jefferson Early Childhood Collaborative lottery are pending (not finalized) until final funding awards are received from the Federal Government and/or the Louisiana Legislature and the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).
Recognizing Developmental Milestones
Families and early care and education providers play a critical role in monitoring and celebrating children’s developmental milestones and in identifying potential developmental delays. Early detection and intervention can help insure that children get the help they need so they can thrive alongside their peers.
